What Labor-Only Actually Means

You Handle the Transportation. We Handle the Muscle.

Labor-only moving is for customers who already have the transportation or storage figured out. Instead of paying for an HHG Movers truck, you hire the crew for the physical moving work.

A Good Fit When You Already Have...

  • A U-Haul or other rental truck
  • A moving trailer
  • A POD, U-Box or similar portable container
  • A self-storage unit that needs loading or unloading
  • Furniture that needs to be rearranged inside the same property

Not the Same as Full-Service Moving

Labor-only does not include an HHG Movers truck, fuel, transportation or the full cargo-protection setup used on our own moving trucks. The customer controls the vehicle or container and how it is supplied for the job.

Simple Hourly Pricing

Labor-Only Rates

These are the current public labor-only rates used on the HHG Movers Rate Planner.

Standard Labor Crew $195/hr 3 movers · 3-hour minimum · $585 minimum
Larger Labor Crew $295/hr 4 movers · 3-hour minimum · $885 minimum
Labor-only has a 3-hour minimum. That is different from full-service local moving with an HHG Movers truck, which currently has a 2-hour minimum.
3 Movers or 4?

The Right Crew Depends on the Job

More movers do not automatically mean the job costs more. On stairs, long carries or a tightly packed container, an additional mover can save enough time to make the larger crew the better choice.

3 Movers

A 3-person crew is the normal starting point for many rental-truck loads, storage-unit jobs, straightforward houses and standard POD work.

4 Movers

A 4-person crew makes more sense when there are stairs, long carries, a short loading window, a tightly packed container or several heavy pieces.

The goal is not the smallest crew. The goal is the crew size that gets the work done efficiently without creating a slow, expensive day.
What We Can Do

Load, Unload, Rearrange or Pack the Space

Labor-only is flexible because transportation is already handled. The crew can be used wherever the heavy work is.

Load a Rental Truck

We load furniture and boxes into the customer-supplied truck or trailer with space efficiency and weight distribution in mind.

Unload at Destination

Use an HHG Movers crew to unload the rental truck, POD or trailer and place furniture into the rooms you direct.

Storage Units

Load or unload self-storage units when you are moving items into storage, out of storage or reorganizing the unit.

PODs & Containers

We can load or unload portable storage containers and help use the available space efficiently.

Furniture Rearranging

Room-to-room moves, same-building rearranging and moving heavy furniture around the property can be handled without transportation.

Disassembly & Reassembly

Standard beds and furniture can be taken apart and put back together when that is part of the labor job.

The Big Difference

Who Is Responsible for the Truck and Protection?

This is the part customers should understand before booking labor-only service.

Labor-Only

You provide and control the truck, trailer or container. HHG Movers provides the moving labor. Full-service cargo protections are not automatically included, so customers should have the blankets, straps and other protection appropriate for their rental equipment and belongings.

Full-Service HHG Move

HHG Movers provides the truck, transportation and our normal full-service protection setup, including the equipment and cargo protections appropriate for the move.

Packing the Truck Right

A Bigger Truck Does Not Help If It Is Loaded Poorly

One of the main reasons customers hire professional labor for a DIY move is to make better use of the space they already rented.

Use the Vertical Space

Furniture and boxes should be arranged to use the height of the truck or container without creating unstable stacks.

Keep Weight Balanced

Heavy pieces need to be positioned so the load is stable and the truck or trailer is not packed carelessly.

Protect What Can Rub

Customers should have enough blankets, pads, straps and other cargo protection available for the furniture being loaded.

For labor-only jobs, tell us what equipment you are using before the date. A 26-foot rental truck, a 16-foot POD and a small trailer are three very different loading jobs.
Heavy Items

Tell Us Before the Crew Arrives

Heavy and specialty pieces change the manpower, equipment and loading plan. They should never be a surprise on a labor-only job.

Pianos

Tell us what type of piano, where it is located and whether stairs are involved.

Gun Safes

Give us the approximate size or weight and describe the path from the room to the truck or container.

Exercise Equipment

Treadmills, home gyms and other bulky pieces often require disassembly or extra manpower.

HHG Movers does not move hot tubs.
Before Moving Day

Have the Truck and the House Ready

Labor-only works best when the rented equipment is on site and ready before the crew's clock starts.

Truck on Site

Pick up the rental truck or trailer before the crew arrival window whenever possible.

Boxes Packed

If the job is loading or unloading, have boxes sealed and ready unless packing was specifically added to the job.

Blankets & Straps Ready

Have the cargo protection required for your rental vehicle, POD or trailer available when the crew arrives.
