Residential Movers for the Whole Household
A residential move is the whole household: bedrooms, kitchen, garage, appliances, furniture, specialty pieces, packing, storage, closing dates and the details that determine whether the new house actually feels moved into. HHG Movers plans the home—not just the truck ride.
Residential Moving at a Glance
A House Move Is Really a Logistics Job
The moving truck is only one part of it. A residential move often involves closing dates, multiple rooms, garages, appliances, furniture that needs to come apart, items that cannot go on the truck until last, and rooms that need to be usable first at the new home.
We Plan the Household, Not Just the Mileage
A bedroom count gives us a starting point. The video walkthrough shows us what actually controls the day: how full the home is, what is in the garage, where the truck can park, what needs to be disassembled, and whether the new home is ready when the old one has to be empty.
- Closets, garages, sheds and storage rooms
- Large furniture and appliances
- Items that need disassembly or special handling
- Driveway, stairs, elevators and carrying distance
- Closing-date gaps or temporary storage needs
Typical Residential Situations
HHG Movers handles household moves for families moving across town, employees relocating into South Georgia, seniors downsizing, customers moving between closings, and families leaving Georgia altogether.
Real Planning Numbers Before You Call
The pricing below intentionally matches the HHG Movers Rate Planner. These are planning examples for normally furnished homes, not automatic bedroom-count bids.
The House Is More Than Bedrooms and Boxes
Good residential planning accounts for the parts of a home that create the most work, the most decisions and the most potential for moving-day surprises.
Bedrooms & Closets
Beds may need disassembly, mattresses need protection, dressers can be heavy and closets often contain more volume than customers expect.
Kitchen & Dining
Dishes, glassware, small appliances, tables, hutches and fragile pieces make the kitchen one of the most packing-intensive rooms in the house.
Living & Family Rooms
Sofas, sectionals, recliners, televisions, entertainment furniture and oversized pieces may require disassembly, door planning and careful protection.
Garage, Shed & Patio
Toolboxes, shelving, lawn equipment, grills, outdoor furniture and stored household items can add substantial volume even when they are outside the main living space.
Appliances
Refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, ovens and ranges can be moved when properly prepared and disconnected from required utility connections.
Specialty Pieces
Pianos, pool tables, gun safes, grandfather clocks, artwork, antiques and exercise equipment need to be disclosed so manpower, access and equipment can be reviewed in advance.
What Happens Between “We Sold the House” and “We Are Moved In”?
This is where residential moving is different from a simple loading job. A household move often has timing problems that do not show up on an inventory list.
Closing Dates Do Not Match
If the old home has to be empty before the new home is ready, we can discuss temporary holding or household-goods storage as part of the move.
The New Home Is Not Ready
Construction delays, floor work, paint, repairs or delayed possession can change the order of the move. Tell us early so the plan can be adjusted before moving day.
You Need Certain Rooms First
Bedrooms, kitchen basics, office furniture or children's rooms may need to be usable first. Placement at delivery can be planned around how you actually need to live in the home.
You Do Not Have to Buy Full Packing to Get Help Packing
Residential customers often do most of their own packing and leave the difficult areas to us. That is usually a better fit than treating packing as all-or-nothing.
Pack It Yourself
If keeping the move price down is the priority, pack your own boxes and have the household ready when the crew arrives.
Let Us Handle the Hard Rooms
Kitchens, glassware, pictures, TVs and fragile items are common areas where customers want professional help without paying for whole-home packing.
Full Household Packing
For customers who want one company handling the entire process, HHG Movers can pack the complete home before moving day.
Do Not Pack Your First Night Into the Middle of the Truck
One of the easiest ways to make a household move harder is to load the things you will need before the truck is completely unloaded. Keep a small group of essentials with you.
Keep These With You
- Medications and medical necessities
- Important documents, keys and wallets
- Cash, jewelry and irreplaceable valuables
- Phone chargers and essential electronics
- One change of clothes and basic toiletries
- Children's immediate-use items and pet supplies
- Anything you may need before unloading is complete
Plan for Children & Pets Too
Moving day means open doors, moving equipment, heavy furniture and constant foot traffic. When possible, keep pets secured away from the crew's working path and arrange a safe place for small children. It protects them and lets the crew work without unnecessary stops.
The Same Household Can Be Priced Two Different Ways
The type of move is residential. The distance determines how we price it.
Local Residential Move
Within Georgia and within 50 miles. Local moving with our truck is generally billed hourly with a 2-hour minimum.
Georgia Long-Distance
50 miles or more while remaining within Georgia. These moves receive a written flat-rate quote after review.
Interstate Residential Move
Any move crossing a state line. HHG Movers performs the move directly and provides a written flat-rate quote.
When the Furniture Needs Somewhere to Go
Storage matters most on residential moves when the timing between homes is imperfect.
Climate-Controlled Household-Goods Storage
Planning examples assume a normally furnished, fully furnished home for the home size shown.
- Studio / 1-bedroom apartment: about $80/month
- 2-bedroom apartment: about $140/month
- 3-bedroom house: about $210/month
8×16 On-Site Storage Box
$300 up front covers empty delivery and empty pickup, then $150 per month. It can be placed on a suitable driveway. HHG Movers does not transport it while loaded.
Show Us the Parts Bedroom Count Misses
Video walkthrough is the standard and preferred estimate method. In-person estimates are available when video isn’t practical or when HHG Movers determines an on-site review makes sense. We are looking for the parts of the household a basic room count does not tell us.
Garage, Shed & Attic
These areas can add as much work as another room and are easy to forget when someone says “3-bedroom house.”
Heavy or Specialty Items
Pianos, gun safes, pool tables, exercise equipment and oversized furniture should be shown so we can plan manpower and equipment.
Truck Access
Long driveways, gates, tight streets, apartment parking, stairs and long carries all affect the move even when the household size stays the same.
From the First Walkthrough to the Last Room
The household is easier to move when the plan is clear before moving day.
Show the Home
Walk us through the rooms, closets, garage, shed, access, appliances and specialty items that are actually moving.
Build the Plan
We review the move type, distance, packing, storage, crew needs, access and timing before preparing the written quote.
Protect & Move
The crew protects the home and furniture, disassembles where needed, loads, transports and unloads the household.
Place & Walk Through
Furniture is placed in the requested rooms and the crew completes a final room-by-room walkthrough before leaving.
Questions Specific to Moving a Household
What is the difference between residential moving and local moving?
Residential moving describes the type of job: moving a household. Local moving describes the distance: within Georgia and within 50 miles. A residential move can be local, Georgia long-distance or interstate.
Do I have to pack everything before HHG Movers arrives?
No. You can pack everything yourself, hire us for selected rooms or fragile items, or purchase full household packing.
What if my old home closes before the new home is ready?
Tell us as early as possible. We can discuss temporary holding or storage depending on the timing and the move.
Can you move the garage, shed and outside furniture too?
Yes, when those items are included in the estimate. Show every area containing items to be moved during the video walkthrough.
Can you move appliances?
Yes. Large appliances can be included after required water, gas or electrical connections are properly disconnected.
What happens with furniture that needs to come apart?
Standard furniture disassembly and reassembly can be included when needed. Show the item during the walkthrough so it can be planned correctly.
Can you move specialty items with the rest of the house?
Yes. Pianos, gun safes, pool tables, artwork, antiques, exercise equipment and other large items can be part of the move when disclosed ahead of time.
How do I get the residential quote?
Use the Rate Planner for a planning number, then send a video walkthrough of the household and access. HHG Movers reviews the actual move and prepares the written quote.
How far in advance should I schedule a residential move?
Two to three weeks is generally a comfortable planning window. Earlier planning is helpful for end-of-month, summer, holidays and other busy periods.
Can HHG Movers move a house locally and also move a household out of state?
Yes. Residential describes what is being moved. Distance determines whether the move is local, Georgia long-distance or interstate and how the move is priced.
Do movers place furniture in the rooms at the new home?
Yes. HHG Movers unloads and places furniture in the rooms you request. A final room-by-room walkthrough gives you a chance to identify reasonable placement changes before the crew leaves.
Will my furniture be wrapped?
On full-service household moves, appropriate furniture protection can include moving blankets and stretch wrap, along with home protections such as floor runners and entry protection as needed for the move.
Do mattresses and TVs get protected?
Yes. Mattress protection and TV boxing are part of HHG Movers' full-service protection process when those items are included in the household move.
What should I do with medications, documents and jewelry?
Keep medications, important documents, cash, jewelry, keys and irreplaceable valuables with you instead of loading them with the household shipment.
What should I do with pets on moving day?
Keep pets secured away from open doors, furniture paths and moving equipment. A separate room, kennel or off-site arrangement can make the day safer and help the crew work efficiently.
Do I need to disconnect my washer or refrigerator?
Customers should properly disconnect required water, gas or other utility connections before the appliance is moved. HHG Movers can then handle the appliance as part of the move.
Can you move things from an attic or crawlspace?
Show those areas during the walkthrough. Access, item size and safety determine what can be handled and whether items need to be brought to an accessible area before moving day.
Can you help if we are downsizing?
Yes. Residential moves commonly include downsizing from a larger home to a smaller house, apartment or senior living setting. Identifying what is moving before the walkthrough helps keep the plan accurate.
Can you move only part of my household?
Yes. A residential move does not have to include every item in the home. Clearly separate what is moving from what is staying and show the moving inventory during the walkthrough.
What if it rains on moving day?
HHG Movers can work through reasonable rain and weather gaps using appropriate protection, but crews do not work in conditions that are unsafe for people, property or equipment.
Are residential moves brokered to another moving company?
No. HHG Movers is not a moving broker. HHG Movers performs the move directly with its own operation.
