What Does a Local Move Cost?

Bedroom count is not the quote. An unpacked kitchen, third-floor walk-up, long driveway, full garage, storage building, specialty items or long carrying distance can change the time required. The Rate Planner gives a planning number; the written quote after review is what governs the move.
What Changes the Price?

Bedroom Count Is a Starting Point. The Actual Move Determines the Work.

Two 3-bedroom homes can be completely different moves. The useful way to estimate a local move is to look at the inventory, access, preparation and anything requiring special handling.

How Much Is Actually Moving?

Furniture, boxes, garages, sheds, patios, attics and storage areas all matter. A lightly furnished home and a fully furnished home with the same bedroom count do not require the same labor.

What Is the Access Like?

Stairs, elevators, apartment corridors, gates, parking restrictions, steep driveways, narrow halls and long carries between the door and truck can change the time required.

Is Everything Ready?

Sealed boxes, clear walking paths, separated personal items and properly disconnected appliances help the crew stay productive. Loose items and unfinished packing add time.

Anything Heavy or Unusual?

Pianos, safes, pool tables, oversized furniture, exercise equipment, large appliances and furniture requiring extensive disassembly should be shown before moving day.

This is why HHG Movers wants to see the move. The Rate Planner gives you a useful planning number. The walkthrough lets us understand the real scope before the truck arrives.
What Full-Service Local Moving Includes

More Than a Truck and Two Dollies

Our local moving service includes the equipment, protection and crew needed to move a typical household safely and efficiently.

Truck & Moving Equipment

HHG Movers provides the moving truck, dollies, hand trucks, straps, moving blankets and other standard moving equipment.

Loading & Transportation

We load the household goods, transport them to the new location and unload them into the rooms you direct.

Furniture Setup

Standard furniture disassembly and reassembly can be included when needed for the move.

  • Moving blankets and stretch wrap for appropriate furniture
  • Mattress protection
  • Floor runners and entry protection
  • Door-frame, cardboard, carpet and corner protection when appropriate
  • TV boxes when required and available for the move
  • Final room-by-room walkthrough before the crew leaves
Furniture Protection

How We Protect the Home and the Furniture

A short move can still damage furniture or a home when basic protection is skipped. These protections are part of the way HHG Movers performs full-service local moves.

Floors & Entries

Floor runners and other appropriate protection can be used along the working path and main entries.

Wood Furniture

Wood furniture is typically protected with moving blankets and secured in the truck to reduce rubbing and shifting.

Upholstered Furniture

Cloth sofas, chairs and fabric furniture can be stretch-wrapped to help protect against dirt, weather and contact during the move.

Mattresses

Mattresses are protected rather than being placed bare inside the moving truck.

TVs, Glass & Mirrors

TVs, mirrors and glass require appropriate protection and should be shown during the video walkthrough.

Appliances

Large appliances can be padded and secured for the move after required water, gas or electrical connections are properly disconnected.

Specialty Items

Large and Heavy Items Can Be Part of a Local Move

Tell us about heavy, delicate or unusual pieces during the quote process so the crew and equipment can be planned correctly.

Pianos

Upright and other piano moves can be included when the item and access are disclosed during the estimate.

Gun Safes & Heavy Furniture

Safes, oversized furniture and other heavy items need to be shown so we can plan the manpower and equipment.

Pool Tables & Exercise Equipment

Pool tables, treadmills, home gyms and similar items can be planned into the move when disclosed ahead of time.

Know the limits before moving day. HHG Movers does not move hot tubs or spas and does not hoist furniture through windows or balconies. Gun safes are ground-level moves only when weight and access are appropriate. Piano moves are generally limited to up to five steps unless the move is specifically reviewed and approved.
How the Quote Works

Show Us the Move. Then We Can Plan It Correctly.

Video walkthrough is the standard and preferred estimate method. In-person estimates are available when video isn’t practical or when HHG Movers determines an on-site review makes sense. Seeing the actual furniture and access gives us better information than guessing from bedroom count alone.

1. Send the Video

Show every room, closet, garage, storage area, stairs, driveway, parking conditions and anything unusual about the property.

2. We Review the Move

We review the inventory, access, specialty items and other details that affect crew size and time.

3. Get the Written Quote

A 10% deposit secures the moving date. For local moves, the remaining balance is due when the job is complete.

Save Time on an Hourly Move

The Cheapest Hour Is the Hour You Do Not Need.

Most HHG Movers local truck moves are hourly, so good preparation can matter to the final cost. The goal is not to rush the crew. It is to remove preventable delays so paid moving time is spent moving.

Finish the Packing

Unless HHG Movers is packing for you, have boxes sealed and ready before the crew arrives. Keep medicine, documents, valuables and immediate-use items with you.

Clear the Working Path

Clear halls, stairs and entries. Make reasonable parking arrangements so the truck can work as close to the home as access allows.

Handle Utility Connections

Disconnect washer, refrigerator water lines and other required utility connections before the move when applicable. Movers can handle the appliance after it is properly disconnected.

Show Us Everything

Include closets, garages, sheds, patios, storage areas and specialty items in the walkthrough. Hidden inventory becomes extra work on moving day.

Confirm Destination Access

Know the gate code, elevator rules, loading area, parking restrictions and building time limits at the new address before the crew gets there.

Move Less Stuff

Donate, sell or discard things you already know you do not want. Fewer items generally means less loading, less unloading and less paid moving time.

Have Your Own Truck?

Local Labor-Only Moving Is a Separate Service

If you already rented a truck, trailer, POD or storage container, HHG Movers can provide the moving labor without providing transportation.

$195/hr · 3 moversLabor-only service · 3-hour minimum · $585 minimum
$295/hr · 4 moversLabor-only service · 3-hour minimum · $885 minimum
Labor-only does not automatically include the full cargo-protection package used on an HHG Movers full-service truck move.
Choosing a Local Mover

Compare More Than the Hourly Rate.

A low number is not useful if you do not know who is performing the move, what the rate includes or what happens when the real move is different from the phone description. Ask enough questions to compare the actual service.

Questions Worth Asking Any Mover

  • Are you a licensed household-goods carrier or a broker?
  • Who actually performs the move?
  • Is pricing hourly or flat-rate, and what is the minimum?
  • When does billable time begin and end?
  • What furniture and home protections are included?
  • What happens when inventory or access differs from the estimate?
  • Can you handle apartments, appliances and specialty items?
  • What happens if closing changes or storage becomes necessary?

HHG Movers Answers Those Questions Up Front

We publish our local planning rates, explain the 2-hour minimum, show our licenses, tell you we are not a broker, explain our protection process, separate labor-only from full-service moving, review the real inventory and access, and give you a written quote. The point is simple: you should understand what you are buying before moving day.

Are local moves flat-rated?

Most local moving service with our truck is billed hourly with a 2-hour minimum. The written quote explains how the specific move will be billed.

Is the Rate Planner a guaranteed quote?

No. The Rate Planner is a planning tool. Your written quote after HHG Movers reviews the move is the price document that governs the job.

What is included with a local move?

The truck, moving crew, standard moving equipment, loading, transportation, unloading, room placement and appropriate furniture/home protection are part of full-service local moving.

Do you protect furniture and floors?

Yes. Full-service moves can include moving blankets, stretch wrap, mattress protection, floor runners, entry protection, door-frame protection, cardboard, carpet protection and corner protection as appropriate.

Do you disassemble and reassemble furniture?

Yes. Standard furniture disassembly and reassembly can be included when needed to complete the move.

Do you move appliances?

Yes. Refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, ovens, ranges and other large appliances can be moved after required water, gas or electrical connections are properly disconnected.

What if I already rented a truck?

Use our labor-only service. Labor-only pricing is $195 per hour for 3 movers or $295 per hour for 4 movers, with a 3-hour minimum.

How does the estimate process work?

A video walkthrough is our standard estimate method. Show the rooms, closets, garage, storage areas, furniture, stairs, driveway and anything unusual about the access.

How much is the deposit?

A 10% deposit is required to secure the moving date.

When is the balance due?

For local moves, the remaining balance is due when the job is complete unless the written quote states otherwise.

What days do your crews work?

Monday through Friday is our normal schedule, and crews are generally planned to be done by 5:00 p.m. Weekend work is not standard and is quoted individually when HHG Movers accepts the date.

How far in advance should I schedule?

Two to three weeks is generally a comfortable planning window. Earlier planning helps for end-of-month, summer, holiday and other busy dates.

What happens if my closing date changes?

Contact us as soon as possible. We can discuss rescheduling, temporary holding or storage depending on the situation.

Do you move in the rain?

When conditions are reasonable, crews can work through normal weather and protect furniture as appropriate. We do not ask crews to work in unsafe conditions.

What can make my local move take longer than the planning estimate?

More inventory than expected, unfinished packing, stairs or elevators, long carries, parking restrictions, difficult truck access, garages or sheds, extensive disassembly and undisclosed specialty items can all add time.

How can I lower the cost of an hourly local move?

Be packed before arrival, clear the working path, separate anything not moving, disconnect required appliance connections, confirm parking and building access, and show the complete inventory during the walkthrough. Preparation reduces avoidable labor time.

Do you move apartments, condos and townhomes?

Yes. Tell us about stairs, elevators, loading zones, gates, parking restrictions, long corridors and building time limits before moving day so we can plan the move correctly.

Can HHG Movers move furniture inside my house without a truck?

Yes. Furniture rearranging and other in-home moving can often be handled through our labor-only service when transportation is not needed.

What should I keep with me instead of putting on the moving truck?

Keep medications, important documents, cash, jewelry, keys, personal electronics, irreplaceable items and anything you need immediately with you rather than loading them with the household shipment.

Should I empty my dresser drawers?

It depends on the dresser, its construction, contents, weight and the access through the home. Show heavy dressers and unusual contents during the walkthrough so HHG Movers can tell you how that piece should be prepared.

Are you a moving broker?

No. HHG Movers performs the move directly with our own operation rather than brokering it to another moving company.
