What Movers Will & Won't Move
The answer can change depending on the move. A houseplant that can ride across town is not something HHG will put on an interstate shipment. A mower may be fine after proper preparation. Medicine should stay with you. Gasoline never belongs in the household-goods truck. Choose your move type below and get the answer that applies to your move.

Paint, fuel, propane, chemicals, ammunition and other hazardous materials can create fire, explosion, contamination and legal problems. If you are unsure about something, tell HHG before packing or loading it.
Local, Georgia 50+ and Interstate Are Not the Same Move
Local: Some Living Things Can Be Practical
For a short Georgia move, HHG may move ordinary household plants when they are healthy, stable, reasonably sized and protected from leaking soil/water. Plants remain sensitive to heat, cold and handling, so customer transport is still safest for delicate plants.
Georgia 50+: More Time in Transit
The shipment stays in Georgia, but distance increases exposure to temperature, movement and delays. Plants and other perishable/sensitive items become conditional. HHG should review them before moving day rather than discovering them during loading.
Interstate: HHG Does Not Transport Plants
HHG's interstate policy is simple: live plants do not go in our interstate household-goods shipment. Agricultural restrictions can also vary by origin, destination and quarantine area. Rehome them or research lawful personal transport for the destination.
Hazardous Materials: Distance Doesn't Fix Unsafe
Gasoline, propane cylinders, fireworks, many paints/solvents, corrosives, poisons and similar hazardous materials do not become acceptable because the move is short. Keep them out of packed household-goods boxes and discuss questionable products before moving day.
“Yes” Does Not Always Mean “Load It Exactly Like It Sits”
Disconnect it.
Customer-required utility and water-line disconnections should be completed before the crew needs to move the appliance. Use a qualified professional when the work requires one.
Empty it.
Refrigerators, freezers, safes, cabinets, drawers where necessary, exercise equipment and specialty items may need contents or removable components taken out.
Drain it.
Lawn equipment and other fuel-powered equipment must be prepared so fuel/oil does not create a hazardous shipment. Do not hand the crew a mower with gasoline in it.
Disclose it.
Pianos, safes, pool tables, grandfather clocks, large artwork, antiques, oversized furniture and unusually heavy items should be disclosed during the estimate.
Measure access.
An item can be movable but still not fit safely through a doorway, stair turn or destination opening. HHG does not hoist furniture through windows or balconies.
Keep critical things personally controlled.
Medication, IDs, keys, cash, jewelry, critical records, phones and small irreplaceable items should not disappear into the shipment just because they fit in a box.
Things We Want Clear Before Moving Day
Hot Tubs & Spas
HHG Movers does not move hot tubs or spas.
No Window / Balcony Hoisting
We do not hoist household goods through windows or over balconies. Access must allow the item to be moved safely through normal openings.
Gun Safes
Ground-level only when weight, access and conditions are appropriate. The safe must be emptied/unbolted as required. HHG does not carry safes up or down stairs.
Pianos
Normal piano moves can include up to five steps. Full stair carries beyond five steps and hoisting are outside our normal piano service and require review.
The “Do Not Put This in a Box and Hope” Rule
Hazardous or questionable products need to be separated before packing.
Examples include gasoline, propane, fireworks, ammunition, paint thinner, many solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, compressed gases, corrosives and poisons. Federal rules are especially important for interstate household-goods transportation. Local disposal requirements vary, so dispose of unwanted products lawfully rather than placing them in household trash unless local rules allow it.
Plants are a perfect example of why this page asks for move type.
Local Georgia: ordinary household plants can generally go with HHG if practical and prepared. Georgia 50+: ask us first because transit time and plant condition matter. Interstate: HHG does not transport live plants. That is HHG's interstate operating policy; separate state/federal agricultural restrictions may also apply to personal transport.
What Can Go on a Moving Truck?
Can movers move plants?
It depends on the move. HHG can generally move ordinary prepared household plants on short local Georgia moves when practical. For Georgia moves over 50 miles, ask HHG first. HHG does not transport live plants on interstate shipments. State and federal agricultural restrictions may separately affect plants you transport yourself.
Can movers move food?
Sealed shelf-stable pantry food may be practical on some moves, but refrigerated, frozen, open and perishable food should generally be used, donated, discarded or personally handled. Longer-distance moves make perishables a worse shipment choice.
Can movers move a refrigerator or freezer?
Yes, when properly prepared. Remove food, handle ice/water, secure loose components and complete required customer utility/water-line disconnections before moving. Follow manufacturer guidance for preparation and restart timing.
Can movers move a washer and dryer?
Yes, after required water, drain, gas or electrical preparation is completed. Customers are responsible for required utility/water-line disconnections or arranging qualified service when appropriate.
Can movers move a lawn mower?
Potentially, after proper preparation. Fuel and other hazardous fluids must not create a hazardous shipment. Tell HHG what equipment you have and prepare it before moving day.
Can movers move propane tanks?
No. HHG does not transport propane cylinders in household-goods shipments.
Can movers move paint?
Do not assume paint can go. Many paints, thinners, solvents and related products are flammable or otherwise hazardous. HHG's guide marks these products as items that should not be transported in the household-goods shipment.
Can movers move cleaning supplies?
Many cleaners contain corrosive, flammable or reactive ingredients and should not be placed in the shipment. Personally use/dispose of them according to product and local rules rather than hiding them in packed boxes.
Can movers move medicine?
Medication should stay with you. You may need it during travel or before the shipment is fully unloaded, and temperature-sensitive medicine may require special handling that a household-goods truck does not provide.
Can movers move cash, jewelry and important documents?
Keep them personally controlled. The same applies to IDs, passports, keys, critical financial/legal records and small irreplaceable sentimental items.
Can HHG move a gun safe?
Potentially, but only at ground level when weight, access and conditions are appropriate. It must be emptied and unbolted as required. HHG does not carry safes up or down stairs.
Can HHG move a piano?
Yes, when the piano and access fit HHG's service limits. Up to five steps is within normal piano service. More complex stairs, unusual access or oversized instruments should be reviewed before booking.
Will HHG move a hot tub?
No. Hot tubs and spas are outside HHG Movers' service.
What if my item is not on this list?
Send HHG a photo and description before moving day. Size, weight, condition, access, fuel/battery/chemical content and move distance can all change the answer.
Why does interstate change what movers can take?
Interstate household-goods transportation is subject to federal motor-carrier rules, and longer transit also makes perishables, plants and temperature-sensitive belongings less practical. HHG additionally sets its own acceptance policies for safety and service quality.
Does “legal to own” mean a mover can transport it?
No. A household item can be legal to possess but unsafe, restricted, impractical or outside a carrier's policy for transportation. Ask before packing questionable items.
